We got Ozzy from an animal shelter when he was just one year old. Although he enjoyed spending time with us, he really liked “hiding” out in his den. After training him and taking down his pen, he made a NEW den under our bed.
Two years ago, we took him camping for the first time and he loved the walking, hiking, and swimming! He enjoyed every minute of being with his family. He loved it so much, we took him down to the boulevard to listen to the music and enjoy the fresh air.

Knowing how much our pooch likes to be part of the family activities, we tried to include him in everything, not realizing that some days are better than others to be out and about.
Obviously, we knew the fourth of July was not a great day to bring him down the boulevard. After all, he hates fireworks! They scare him silly and it’s not a fun experience. We learned that the hard way one year when they were set off at our campground. We didn’t put much thought into it until we wished he was home feeling safe and sound.
But what about days at the local park, summer strolls, and hanging out at the festival?
While each pet is different, we have learned to try to put ourselves in Ozzy’s paws. He has a thick fur coat and likes to drink a lot of water. We imagine being out in the HOT weather for any period of time may be more stressful than fun for him, and sometimes choose to leave him home.
While not every one can leave their pets home, there are things we CAN do to make sure our furry friends enjoy even the HOTTEST, dog days of summer.
